“God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.” Exodus 2:24
I previously mentioned that in my devotional time, I’ve been reading the book of Exodus. As I read these words from Exodus 2, I was encouraged by the God who hears our groaning, remembers His promises, and is genuinely concerned about us. That being said, verse 23 describes their season of suffering as a “long period.” I don’t know about you, but when I cry out to God, I want quick relief not divine delays. Suffering challenges what we believe about the nature of God and often we are left with more questions than answers. That’s why trust is so important and maybe that’s why David wrote, “I trust in your unfailing love.” Because we can’t always explain the hand of God and it’s difficult to reconcile the kind of suffering that many are experiencing lately, but we can trust the heart of God. So we take comfort in knowing that God does hear our groaning and He is genuinely concerned about us.
