The Person in the Mirror

This sermon, “The Person in the Mirror,” challenges believers to rise above the noise of offense, division, and anger by allowing God to examine their own hearts before focusing on the faults of others. Drawing from Ephesians 4:26–32 and Psalm 139:23–24, the message teaches that while being offended is inevitable in a broken world, living offended is a choice that can give the enemy room to sow division, distraction, and spiritual damage. The sermon exposes how easily people identify “those people” who frustrate them while often missing their own pride, resentment, and self-righteousness. The turning point comes with David’s courageous prayer, “Search me, God,” which shifts the focus from fixing others to allowing God to transform us. Ultimately, the message calls believers to replace criticism with compassion, judgment with grace, and distance with genuine love, following the example of Jesus, who consistently moved toward people rather than away from them. The central truth is that spiritual growth begins when we stop asking, “What’s wrong with them?” and start asking, “Lord, what do You want to change in me?” because the person God most wants to transform is often the one staring back at us in the mirror. We will conclude this sermon with a call to a decision and prayer.
